Bates began his career as an intern for Parsons Capital Management right before pursuing his master’s degree in Finance. While pursuing his degree he served as the portfolio manager of the student-managed Marsico fund, during which he was responsible for managing the various sector analysts and leading the investment decision-making process. While in graduate school he also worked as an investment analyst intern at Investment Management Associates, an RIA in Denver with a dedicated value strategy in equities. Prior to joining Parsons Capital full-time Bates worked at Capital Value Advisors, an investment bank in Denver. While at CVA he was responsible for supporting sell-side M&A transactions and valuation engagements for lower middle-market businesses. Bates attended the Pomfret School and received both his BSBA in Business and his MS in Finance from the University of Denver. He currently serves on the Gordon School Investment Committee and is the Treasurer of the Fishers Island Sportsman’s Club.
