As the first quarter of 2026 came to a close, the S&P 500 was headed for a fifth consecutive weekly decline. The index traded in a fairly narrow band in the first two months of the year as positive results from fourth quarter earnings reports were weighed against continued concern over the economy and the sustainability of aggressive AI related spending.
